I’m taking part in the new Run Bramley Baths group, which is taking a group of us from the Couch to 5k. Here’s my report from the second session today...
I’m already getting used to life as the really unfit middle aged bloke at the back of the group! But the important thing is that it doesn’t matter, it’s not a race.
It struck home today that the beauty of this friendly group is that you go at your own pace and you’re not competing with everyone. Run leader Claire and the rest of the group are hugely supportive and encouraging.
There were a couple of times where I was flagging. The support and kind words really gives me extra energy and a positive mental attitude, so thanks guys!
Session two featured the same five-minute brisk walk as Monday to start, This was then followed by a 60-second gentle jog, followed by 90-second walk (and repeat). This is a genius way of slowly building up our fitness.
Session two was a little tougher as it was a gloriously sunny day and you soon get warm, even if it was nippy out to start with! And this time we did an additional run from Monday’s session.
In all, I’m feeling pretty good about myself, I’ve made a start. I’m enjoying the group, I don’t feel intimidated or fearful any more. Now I just need to keep it up.
There are still some places available on Friday’s session. It starts from the Baths reception at 9.30am (other days are Mondays and Wednesdays). It’s a pay as you feel event and free is fine.
You can book (and get more information) here.
